Hi y'all. I’m Christine MacCarroll, and I am a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition®. I practice functional nutritional therapy. Over my lifetime journey experiencing and learning about food, I’ve travelled many different paths, from vegetarian to paleo. The constant has been that I was always reading and learning—and I expect to never stop learning. I make it my business to know the latest science. Interestingly, the “latest” has led me to conclude that we really need to go back in time: farm food over factory food, butter over margarine, slow and local over fast and global.
My mom tells me that my two first words were butterfly and cornbread. So you see, I've always appreciated the finer things in life: natural beauty and a great meal!
As engaged as I've always been though, the real turning point came for me when my youngest daughter was diagnosed with a neurological speech disorder (apraxia). After her diagnosis, my “mama bear” instinct went into overdrive. Helping her heal became my main mission in life, and I spent countless hours reading, researching, and desperately reaching for any help I could find. The best hope after all that research seemed to be in nutrition. After adding a nutritional protocol to traditional speech therapy, profound changes took place in her speech. Today, you would never know that she had ever had any difficulties.
But the change had radiated to me. A wildfire had been lit in my belly. So, after years of saying I’d never go back to school, I did just that. It’s now my passion and mission to be a guide for others who just want to feel GOOD and feel like themselves again. We are meant to use food as our first medicine, and a nourished body functions optimally in all aspects—physically, mentally and emotionally. I’d love to join you on your journey to help your body do just that.
Recently my formerly speech-challenged daughter (who does not seem to be able to STOP talking sometimes!) told me very seriously: ``Mama, I just love to eat.`` Amen, child. Me too. I love to eat. I spend a lot of time thinking about food, and the most nourishing foods to put into my own and family's bodies, but it all boils down to enjoying your food and loving what it can do for you.
